  • Prenatal Care and Delivery - Dr. Ghodsian's prenatal program includes regular checkups from the expecting mother, along with access to birthing class information, patient education, and more. The following practice areas are available when needed:

    • Cesarean Delivery - Also known as a c-section; incisions are made through a mother's abdomen and uterus to deliver the child when vaginal delivery is too risky either for the mother or the child.

    • Genetic Screening - genetic screening tests for chromosomal abnormalities.

    • Ultrasound Examinations - also known as a sonogram, these exams use sound waves at high frequency to visualize the fetus and other pelvic structures on a monitoring screen. The results of these tests are helpful in determining the health of the mother and the child during the pregnancy. Performed in office, it only takes about 30 minutes.

    • Vaginal Delivery - the natural delivery of the baby through the birth canal, beginning when the mother has labored until the cervix has dilated ten centimeters. Medication or other treatment may be applied to ease the stress, discomfort and pain associated with vaginal delivery.

    • Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC) - the vaginal birth of a baby after a woman has already had a c-section for a previous delivery.

  • Circumcision - the surgical removal of the foreskin covering the head of the penis, this is performed shortly after birth in the hospital for hygienic, cultural or religious reasons.

High Risk Obstetrical Services Include:

High Risk Pregnancy - a pregnancy is considered high risk when certain factors present themselves, including problems in previous pregnancies, heart disease or high blood pressure present in the mother before pregnancy, and the use of certain recreational drugs, smoking cigarettes, or drinking alcohol during pregnancy.

    • Amniocentesis - also known as an amniotic fluid test (AFT), this is used to make a prenatal diagnosis of possible chromosomal abnormalities and/or fetal infections, using extracted amniotic fluid containing fetal tissues.

    • Gestational Diabetes - a form of diabetes that occurs during pregnancy. All expecting mothers should take a screening test for gestational diabetes during their prenatal care.

    • Hypertension Pregnancy - women with high blood pressure are at a higher risk for complications with pregnancy.

    • Incompetent Cervix - this occurs when the cervix begins to open before the baby is ready to be born, and can lead to miscarriage or premature delivery.

    • Premature Labor - labor beginning before the 37th week of pregnancy is considered premature, and premature birth can lead to a higher risk of health problems in the child.

    • Twin Pregnancy - twin pregnancy carries higher risk factors than a single pregnancy.

  • Reoccurring Pregnancy Loss - normally diagnosed when a woman has lost three or more pregnancies, as more than 20% of pregnancies end in a miscarriage due to a non-recurrent cause. OBGYN Orange County Dr. Ghodsian can work with you to understand the factors causing recurrent pregnancy loss.

  • Infertility Care - according to the University of Washington’s Infertility Center, approximately 14% of US couples are infertile. Dr. Ghodsian will work with you to find the right solution.

Gynecology Services

  • Physicals/Annual Exams - an annual physical and gynecological exam is recommended for all women. The tests performed during this yearly exam, from pap smears to mammograms, determine the need for more in-depth care.

  • Abnormal Pap Smears - a pap smear is a screening test to detect cancer cells in the cervix. Positive findings result in an abnormal pap smear, important in the early detection of cancer.

  • Premenstrual (PMS) Care - treatment often involves relieving symptoms, and can involve recommended exercise, dietary changes, and the use of medications.

  • Endometriosis - this is an unpredictable but common disorder affecting women; with symptoms including increased menstrual cramps, infertility, and pain during intercourse. Dr. Ghodsian can recommend the proper medication or surgery to treat this disorder.

  • Urology/Incontinence - Dr. Ghodsian also specializes in incontinence and can help determine the cause for symptoms as well as finding proper treatments.

  • Heavy/Abnormal Bleeding - heavy or abnormal bleeding can be the result of irregular menstrual periods or other causes. Dr. Ghodsian can review your medical history and use tests ranging from ultrasound, endometrial biopsy and hysteroscopy to determine the cause of the bleeding.

  • Contraception - Dr. Ghodsian can work with you to find the best method of contraception. Possible methods include:

    • Diaphragm Fitting - a cup-shaped, flexible device inserted into the vagina to cover the cervix uteri and prevent entry of sperm, the diaphragm can be fitted by Dr. Ghodsian.

    • Intrauterine Devices (IUD) - a form of female contraception placed in the uterus, preventing pregnancy for periods ranging from five to ten years.

    • Essure Contraception - permanent birth control. Visit our Procedure Essure page to learn more.

  • Mammograms - mammograms are special x-rays used to detect masses and lumps in breast tissue. These tests are recommended for women ages 40 and above.

  • Hysteroscopy - an endoscopic test, easily done in our office, used to find fibroids or polyps that have developed in the uterus that may be causing heavy bleeding or severe cramping.

  • Menopause - the onset of menopause can cause many unpleasant symptoms, including hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, a loss of libido or decrease in genital sensitivity, insomnia, and even disturbing memory lapses. Hormone therapies can be helpful in lessening some or all of these symptoms. Dr. Ghodsian can help discussion your options with you.
